ALBA-TCP rejects US and OAS interference in Nicaragua

ALBA-TCP rejects US and OAS interference in Nicaragua

It calls for the renunciation of intimidation and the defense of the sovereignty, self-determination and independence of states.

The Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of the America-Our Peoples Trade Agreement (ALBA-TCP) issued a statement on Tuesday categorically rejecting recent statements by US officials against the government of Nicaragua.

The statement stated that the position of US officials is a flagrant violation of the principles and purposes of the Charter of the United Nations and the reason for the continuous attacks and attempts to destabilize against the government of Daniel Ortega.

In the same way, he condemns the intrusive measures in which the Organization of American States intends to interfere in matters that, according to the ALBA-TCP, concern exclusively the people and institutions of Nicaragua.

In this sense, the Alliance welcomes the preparation of the electoral process in Nicaragua and endorses its support for the Sandinista government in what it calls its decision to continue to defend sovereignty, peace and the remarkable progress achieved in social, economic, security and national unity.

Finally, the member states of the alliance call on the international community to reject this kind of intimidation and to defend the sovereignty, self-determination and political independence of states.

ALBA’s statement comes after the organization’s Secretary General, Sacha Llorente, led a working visit to the Central American country last week, expressing himself in similar terms about the US intervention in the region.
