Atari announces compilation for its fiftieth anniversary

Coming this winter to PlayStation, Xbox, Switch and PC

Atari, the legendary electronic entertainment company, completed its fiftieth anniversary on June 27. To celebrate it, it will market “Atari 50: Anniversary Celebration,” a compilation by Digital Eclipse (also responsible for the SNK 40th Anniversary Collection”) that will include several cult titles.

The official statement from Atari read: “Five decades have passed since a small team from Silicon Valley combined their creativity, curiosity, and passion to create games and video hardware. The result of their efforts has been Atari, one of the world’s most recognized brands when it comes to entertainment and pop culture.” […] Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration takes an interactive journey through 50 years of gaming through interviews with creators, documentaries, design files, original HD art, and a curated list of 90 games.”

So we are talking about a suite full of multimedia content, where every game can be enjoyed as envisioned (with resolution improvements for enjoyment on modern systems). Similarly, Digital Eclipse has developed six previously unreleased titles that “revisit, remix and reimagine” some of Atari’s greatest classics. They are as follows:

Sword Quest: Air World: The fourth installment in the Sworquest series, inspired by the original designs of its creator, Tod Frye.

haunted houses: A 3D Approach to Atari 2600 Survival Horror.

VCTR-SCTR: It will combine the mechanics of asteroids, storm and other vector arcades.

New Andreik: The best of Breakout and Pong in multiplayer.

Quadratank: A new installment in the “Tank” series designed to be enjoyed in four ways.

Re-imagining Yaris’s revenge: An update to the classic by Howard Scott Warshaw, where we can also choose the original graphic finish.

Atari 50: Anniversary Celebration is coming this winter on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch, PC, and Atari VCS.
