Cuba strengthens trade and economic relations with the Eurasian bloc

Bishkek: Cuban Prime Minister Manuel Marrero announced that Cuba is strengthening trade and economic relations with the member states of the Eurasian Economic Union affected by the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In his video address at the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council, based in the Kyrgyz capital, the Caribbean leader emphasized that cooperation in the areas of health and biotechnology is progressing at a good pace by promoting the use of Cuban medicines, which some recognize. Union member states.

In this sense, Marrero highlighted the Caribbean nation’s participation as an observer in the Eurasian Economic Council’s Pharmacopoeia Committee, which is a conducive platform for the exchange of views on issues related to health and related technical standards.

Likewise, he highlighted the progress of exchanges between representatives of the Mariel Special Development Zone and the Eurasian Economic Commission, in order to get acquainted with the experience of both parties in anticipation of establishing a joint business relationship.

In this regard, he highlighted the interest of four countries of the bloc in establishing an industrial complex for the EAEU in the Antilles.

The Caribbean Prime Minister stressed that the Cuban authorities are aware of the need to speed up the implementation of projects in the agricultural sector related to the production and marketing of cow’s milk and chicken meat.

With this in mind, he added, Havana had presented to the partners appointed by the Eurasian Economic Commission, as a proposal, two projects on the priority objectives of the Cuban economy.

Marrero took advantage of the meeting scenario to once again invite the member states of the Council to participate in the 38th Havana International Fair (FIHAV 2022), scheduled for November 14-18 this year.

He said that the event constitutes the most important general trade exchange in Cuba and the Caribbean and one of the most representative in Latin America, making it an excellent business platform for new and existing companies.

The Prime Minister stressed that “Havana will warmly welcome representatives of the Eurasian space in the framework of the exhibition, which will provide an opportunity to expand exchanges between businessmen in areas of common interest.”

Likewise, he reiterated the Cuban Government’s readiness to work towards fulfilling the tasks set by the Eurasian Economic Union.

Cuba appreciates the solidarity of the European Economic Union

Cuban Prime Minister Manuel Marrero today thanked members of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) for their solidarity following the fire at the supertankers base in Matanzas.

Speaking via video at the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council, which is based in the capital of Kyrgyzstan, the Cuban leader explained that as a result of the fatal accident, two people died, 14 disappeared, 132 were injured, in addition to significant material damage.

“Let me, on behalf of the Cuban government and people, thank the solidarity and offers of assistance in the face of such an unfortunate event,” Marrero said.

Similarly, he made it clear that the island is still subject to the intensification of the economic, commercial and financial embargo of the United States, in addition to the repercussions of other negative events, including the energy crisis, which he emphasized that it will struggle to the end.

In this sense, he acknowledged accompanying the Eurasian Economic Union countries in international forums to extend their demands to stop the hostile measures applied by Washington for more than six decades against Havana.

In this regard, the senior Cuban official said that at the seventy-seventh session of the United Nations General Assembly, which will be held in September this year, the issue will be discussed again, and “we expect further unanimous support from the countries of the Union on the draft resolution that we will submit”, he added. .

“Cuba has and will always defend solidarity and cooperation to face the current and future challenges facing humanity, knowing that together we can find the solutions that our peoples need,” Marrero stressed.

The Eurasian Intergovernmental Council is the EAEU body made up of the heads of government of the member states (Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Russia).

It is responsible for ensuring the implementation and monitoring of the realization of the Union Treaty, international agreements within this organization and the decisions of the Supreme Council.

Cuba first participated in this coordinating body on December 11, 2020, when it was granted observer state status.

The island maintains close friendly and cooperative relations with the countries that make up the EAEU (Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Russia) and attaches special importance to the development of multifaceted cooperation with the bloc.

This is developed, among other areas, in commerce, energy, transportation, tourism, iron and steel, pharmaceuticals, mining, public health, and biotechnology. (PL)
