Eintracht Frankfurt vs. Sporting CP – Match Report – 7 September 2022

(EFE) – Marcus Edwards spearheaded Sporting’s 0-3 away win over Eintracht Frankfurt with a goal and assist and was clearly his team’s best attacking player throughout the match.

In the first half, there wasn’t much to say in favor of Sporting’s victory, but in the second half in just two minutes, Ruben Amorim’s team spotted differences in surgical accuracy.

The match started with a great chance for Eintracht, at the feet of Randall Kolo Mwani, as a result of a weak return by Ugarte who was looking for his goalkeeper Adan. Kolo Muani crossed the pass and landed the shot inside the area but Adán responded with a good footing.

In general, throughout the first half, Eintracht was more consistent and more accessible. Although Sporting had more possession of the ball, he only managed to hit the target once, through Edwards in the 35th minute after a good individual play.

There was also another case where referee Orel Grinfield awarded Sporting a penalty for Len’s alleged foul on Edwards, but he reversed the decision after looking at the VAR video footage.

The rest of the plays were in the region of Eintracht. Kamada had good chances in the 16th minute, when he shot very poorly, and in the 30th minute, when Adan saved at the first post.

The main difference between the two teams was the Eintracht vertical, who always looked for the opposite area and tried to merge quickly, while Sporting took a long time with the ball and always gave the opponent time to organize.

But Sporting showed a clear improvement in the second half. The rotation of the ball became faster and on the first dangerous arrival the ball ended up in the net. The goal was scored by Edwards, who was the best attacking player in Sporting.

Just two minutes later, Edwards also shared a pass to Trinkau for Sporting’s second goal on a counterattack.

In two minutes the match became something different from what was seen in the first half. Also in the second half, Eintracht was the team that had the first chance, in the 53rd minute at Kamada’s feet after Goetze stole a ball on the edge of the area.

But after the two Sporting goals, it all started to speak in favor of the Portuguese side gaining safety while Eintracht had to make sure the night did not end in utter disaster.

The third came with a counter-attack in the 82nd minute through Nuno Santos, who had entered the field two minutes earlier.
