Galaxy-Z | Samsung develops a phone with a foldable screen and an inverted “L” shape | Nuclear magnetic resonance | Technique

Samsung is developing a new foldable mobile device with a secondary screen that, when opened, achieves an inverted “L” shape for “selfi” camera photography.

Let’s Go Digital has discovered a patent filed by Samsung Electronics with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in mid-2021, which was approved and published on January 20, 2022.

It is a mobile phone belonging to the series Galaxy Z, which, in its compact form, resembles the appearance of any “smartphone”. What distinguishes it is a foldable screen located in the upper left.

When opened, the phone forms an inverted “L” shape, making it easy to hold the bottom of the phone to take pictures or record videos with the front camera. At the moment, it is unknown if it will be punched out or integrated into the display itself.

To enable this additional screen movement — which, like the motherboard, is Ultra Thin Glass (UTG) certified — a hinge is integrated into the side of the device’s frame.

In addition, this secondary screen sticks to the device when moved back thanks to three magnets, so there is no risk of the owner opening it by mistake.

Due to the arrangement of the phone’s sensors, the interface of the device adjusts automatically depending on whether the additional screen is in use or remains closed.

From Let’s Go Digital, they also point out that the secondary panel can be used to display content at the top, along the two screens, using the bottom to control playback.

Also, if users open the second screen while watching a video or photos, this content will be adapted to the characteristics of the top of the device.

On the other hand, it is equipped with a vertical camera system consisting of three lenses and a flash located next to the foldable screen.

Although the details of the sensors and lenses are unknown, it may be wide angle, ultra wide angle and approx, as presented by another member of this series, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3.

In the documents obtained by this portal, it was specified that this mobile phone will be equipped with two batteries, which is an option already available in the third generation of foldable smartphones from the Korean company.
