Apple was one of the first companies to implement remote work when the coronavirus started. She was also one of the first to announce a return to the offices, a decision that initially caused disapproval among her employees. For this reason, Tim Cook chose a hybrid model that didn’t convince many of its workers either.

The company has agreed to adopt a hybrid model that requires workers to come to the office at least three days a week. However, this method did not convince everyone. The first to fall was Ian Goodfellow, Apple’s director of machine learning.

Ian Goodfellow is a major player in Apple’s future because of his involvement in the development of artificial intelligence systems. Goodfellow started his career in Cupertino only 3 years ago, when he decided to leave Google to join the “Apple Special Projects Group” as a Machine Learning Manager.

Despite his involvement and advancement in artificial intelligence systems, only three years after joining Apple, Goodfellow decided to leave the company. Although the official reasons for his departure are not known, Goodfellow hinted that changing Apple’s policy to have more people work from their desks was his motivation for making the decision. “I strongly believe that more flexibility would have been the best option for my team,” Goodfellow wrote in a note according to Zoe Schaeffer.

In Silicon Valley, they prefer to continue to work from home for a raise of $30,000 per year

Working remotely, yes or no? Companies are hesitant. Instead, employees of the big tech companies in Silicon Valley made it clear. Most would rather continue to work from home than return to the office, even if it means a salary increase of up to $30,000 per year (about €27,500). Says a survey conducted by the anonymous professional publishing platform Blind.

When asked, “Would you rather continue to work permanently from home even if I had to forgo an extra $30,000 a year?” , 64% of the participants answered yes. Apple, Amazon, Microsoft, Google, Facebook, Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan… A total of 3,000 employees from the 45 largest companies in the United States participated in the Blind survey. Nearly two-thirds of employees are in favor of continuing to work from home.
