Mensa enhances the adaptation of health facilities to climate change – News – Ministry of Health

In this context, the Executive Directorate of Equipment and Maintenance of the General Directorate of Health Operations held a technical meeting to approve the draft technical document: Minimum technical standards in infrastructure and equipping health institutions to adapt and mitigate the effects of climate change.

The activity included the participation of multidisciplinary teams, such as architects, mechanical, electrical, civil and biomedical engineers, among others, from health institutions, universities, hospitals and specialized institutes of the Metropolitan of Lima, who made contributions to enrich and improve the aforementioned document.

This document constitutes a guide for adaptation and mitigation measures in health facilities; Moreover, it responds to the initial programming of Nationally Determined Contributions to Climate Change Adaptation, approved by the Ministry of Mensa, whose Product No. 5 stipulates that weak institutions providing health services (IPRs) must implement their adaptive capacity in structural and non-structural structures. . And a functional component in confronting the risks of climate change.

It should be noted that the preliminary project, prepared in collaboration with the consultation of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), addresses fundamental aspects such as structural and non-structural conditions of sanitary facilities, taking into account foundations, columns, beams and architectural compositions. Basic items and services, etc.

According to information from the United Nations, climate change is an undeniable reality, and human activities have been the main driver of this phenomenon, making it imperative for key sectors, such as health, to take the necessary measures to adapt and mitigate its impacts.
