Peru face New Zealand in Barcelona before the play-off round

Lima, ap. 21 (EFE) .- The Peruvian football team will face New Zealand in Barcelona on June 5 as part of the preparations for the Qatar 2022 World Cup playoff match against the winner of the clash between Australia and the United Arab Emirates.

The Peruvian Football Federation (FPF) has announced that Real Club Deportivo Español Stadium will play against the All Whites, who will qualify for another playoff World Cup against Costa Rica.

“In conjunction with the technical command of Professor Ricardo Carreca, we have decided to host a friendly against New Zealand on June 5 at the Espanyol Stadium in Barcelona. We face a strong team. The way to World Cup success,” FPF President Augustin Lozano said in a statement.

The Peruvian team will travel to Spain on May 28 and stay in Barcelona until June 10, when they will travel to Doha to “practice”.

Peru faces New Zealand in the playoffs for the 2018 World Cup in Russia. Blanquirroja secured World Cup qualification after 36 years with a 0-0 draw and a 2-0 victory in Lima.

The team, led by Argentina Ricardo Carrera, is looking to advance to the second World Cup following the playoffs on June 13 against the winner of the match between Australia and the United Arab Emirates.

In Peru, Australia have been given a potential contender, with the Peruvians already trailing 2-0 with goals from Andre Guerrero and Pavlo Guerrero in the group stage of the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

Peru qualified for the World Cup playoffs for the second time in a row, after finishing fifth in the South American qualifying rounds after Ecuador, Uruguay, Argentina and Brazil, who qualified directly for Qatar.
