Radio Havana Cuba | Colombia: Historic results in presidential elections

The second round of Colombia’s elections

BOGOTA, June 4 (RHC) The most significant event this week in Colombia was the large number of votes reached in the first electoral round last Sunday by the alternative and leftist forces, represented by the Historic Pact (PH).

In this presidential election, 6 candidates sought access to the Nariño Council and two showed relevant results.

The broad vote in favor of Gustavo Petro and Francia Márquez, the presidential and vice-presidential candidates, respectively, for the PH, defeating Federico Gutiérrez, the candidate for Uribismo, a political movement based on the ideology of former President Alvaro Uribe Velez, who advocates neoliberalism, the political right and populism.

Voting for Rodolfo Hernandez of the Governors Anti-Corruption League, a controversial candidate chosen due to an illegal million-dollar contract, misogyny, vulgarity and abuse, as well as for being an admirer of German fascist Adolf Hitler and who he is compared to the former head of the
United States, Donald Trump.

Hernandez removed Gutierrez to third, a fact that is one of the surprises of this election.
