BOGOTA, DECEMBER 24 (RHC) The Institute for Development and Peace Studies (INDEPAS) on Friday denounced the killing of two social leaders in Colombia, for which 168 people have already been killed during 2021.

According to Endabaz, the first victim to be assassinated by Gustavo Orozco Ramirez was the chairperson of the Community Action Council (JAC) of the village of San Perucho, in the Andean municipality, Antioquia, and in addition, the Ombudsman’s office issued an alert regarding the presence of irregular armed groups in the district.

The entity had previously condemned the killing of the second social leader, Wilmar Ascanio Angarita, by assassins in the municipality of San Pablo, in the Bolivar department.

The Ombudsman’s Office also issued an alert in Bolivar, due to the presence of gangs controlling human trafficking, prostitution and other activities related to the underground economy.

In addition to the 168 leaders assassinated during the year, Indepaz explains that since the signing of the peace agreement in 2016 so far, 1,283 human rights defenders have been killed.

At the same time, the Institute warns of the humanitarian situation because the phenomenon of massacres has also emerged, during the year 2021, 91 massacres were committed in various provinces of Colombia. (fountain:Telesur)
