HANOI, July 23 (RHC) – Vietnam plans to develop about seven gigawatts of offshore wind capacity by 2030 and 54 gigawatts by 2045, according to current forecasts today, said Serpa Garvinpa, director of the Southeast Asia Energy Conversion Fund.

To achieve this goal, the country needs to conduct surveys in marine areas in order to identify potential locations for the development of this type of power, at the discretion of the Executive when speaking in a virtual consultation on the topic organized in Hanoi face-to-face

Garvenpa urged interest in granting licenses to the concerned units to be able to conduct surveys in an adequate offshore area, with the aim of supporting the Vietnamese government in making decisions on suitable areas for offshore wind energy development.

For his part, the representative of the Danish consortium T&T and Ørsted, Sebastian Hald Poll, insisted that the industry would not be able to advance if investors were not granted a research license.

He said it is necessary to ensure the efficient use of offshore wind resources in Vietnam by applying pre-qualification criteria upon approval and award of overseas study permit certificates.

Vice President of the General Administration of Seas and Islands of Vietnam said that Vietnam considers the development of offshore wind energy as one of the important steps in the transition from fossil energy to green and clean energy, in order to fulfill the commitments made in COP26. Trung Duc Tri.

The news agency “VNA” quoted the director as saying that there are still many difficulties and obstacles in the process of evaluating proposals for wind measurement and geological and topographical surveys at sea.
