The new options can be adjusted directly from the car’s screen, providing more convenient and intuitive control.
Tesla has introduced new parental control tools for its cars, designed to provide greater safety for teen drivers. The new features include:
- Speed Limit: Those responsible for a teenager may set a specific speed for the youth to drive.
- Reduce acceleration: Sets acceleration to a softer setting for greater control.
- Security Features: Includes speed limit warnings, forward collision warning, and automatic emergency braking. Teens cannot adjust these alerts.
- Curfew NoticesParents will receive a notification in the app if the vehicle is used between 11:00pm and 4:00am.
Tesla pointed out that
- Put the vehicle in park before proceeding.
- On the vehicle’s touchscreen, touch the Controls menu.
- Select the security option.
- Click on Parental Controls to open the corresponding settings.
- Click Confirm to continue activating parental controls.
- Enter your PIN to protect and secure your parental control settings.
“You can also access parental controls from the Tesla mobile app (version 4.34.5 or later required),” the company explains in its owner’s manual.
Tesla cars are known for their full self-driving feature, known as Autopilot FSD (Full Self-Driving). This system combines artificial intelligence with a set of cameras located around the car. However, Autopilot FSD has been linked to several car accidents.
Of the more than 1,000 crashes Tesla reported to the NHTSA, The Wall Street Journal analyzed 222. Of those, 44 involved the vehicle suddenly swerving and 31 involved the car failing to stop or reverse.
Autopilot FSD uses cameras mounted on the front, rear and sides of the car to monitor traffic, other vehicles and road signs. These cameras allow the car to interpret its environment and, through machine learning, adjust its behaviour when Autopilot (active cruise control) or Full Self-Driving is activated.
but, Problems arise when the program encounters unknown obstacles that it has not been trained for.As Phil Koopman, associate professor of electrical and computer engineering at Carnegie Mellon University, explained to the media outlet.
Tesla, led by Elon Musk, insists that the exclusive use of cameras to detect obstacles is sufficient and that additional sensors such as radars are not required.
“Keep your hands on the wheel at all times and pay attention to road conditions, surrounding traffic, and other road users (such as pedestrians and cyclists). Pay attention to the road at all times and always be ready to act immediately if necessary,” the Tesla Owner’s Manual urges.
