Bolivia's vice president warns of coup plots

The British Union and the government are trying to avoid a strike on the railways

LONDON, November 24 (Prensa Latina) Representatives of railway workers and the government met here today to try to find a solution to avoid a strike that would cripple British train service in the days leading up to Christmas.

The talks were chaired by the General Secretary of the Rail, Maritime and Transport (RMT) Union, Mick Lynch. And by the Minister for that sector, Mark Harper, who described them as positive and productive, respectively.

According to the union leader, a change in tone could be seen on the part of the executive, who also promised to clarify the negotiating mandate for the various cases involved in the dispute.

Harper’s office also issued a statement confirming that there is a possibility of reaching an agreement to avoid the strikes announced on December 13, 14, 16 and 17, and January 3, 4, 6 and 7.

The Minister said that I want to make it easier for RMT and the operators to reach an agreement and put an end to this dispute in favor of the travelers.

The railway workers, who have staged several successive strikes in recent months, are calling for higher wages in line with inflation already exceeding 11 percent, better working conditions and an end to layoffs.

Teachers, postal workers, nurses and dock workers also have similar demands, due to the increase in the cost of living, which the government blames in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic and the war in Ukraine.
