UCLM, among the most specialized in health

UCLM, among the most specialized in health

The CyD Foundation has published its report on Spanish universities by the Autonomous Community. It refers to 2021 data. It highlights that Universidad de Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM) is among the four universities with the highest rate of majoring in health sciences.

More than 20 students per place

Additionally, the report highlights the average coverage of more than 90% of places offered by UCLM to first-year students, in degrees. But in the case of health professions, that coverage is 100%. In fact, UCLM cannot meet all the demands that it has to pursue degrees such as medicine, as each place has been disputed – in this course – by more than 20 students.

The report leaves out other interesting data such as that Castilla-La Mancha has a low presence of foreign students. In fact, it is the fifth with the lowest value in both enrollment and alumni. But it has a high percentage of full-time students. In this aspect, it has the largest room.

Leading Research Excellence

Regarding the university’s scientific output, they point out that Castilla-La Mancha occupies one of the last three places if the percentage of publications in collaboration with companies or institutions in the region is taken into account. And the sixth lowest value when splitting publications on full-time faculty and research (PDI FTE). But, yes, it is the region with the highest percentage of premium publications with leadership in 2015-2019, at 8.5%.

On the other hand, with regard to the participation of women in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) fields, Castilla-La Mancha stands out as the region with the highest percentage of women among graduates in life sciences. In addition, it is the second highest in science, physics, chemistry and geology, and fourth in computer science, as the same CyD Foundation report notes.

UCLM also has the highest R&D expenditure per researcher. Castilla-La Mancha was the fifth region with the highest increase in R&D spending between 2019 and 2020 and the most increase in researchers.
