Ukrainian attempts to open a second anti-Russian front in Georgia

The candidate for prime minister also said that “when some authorities on the Ukrainian side try to make Georgia a target of Russia, in a completely artificial way, this is of course very worrying.”

According to Kobegidze, these people cannot hide their bad intentions towards the Georgian state, and are pursuing a second front, setting up dangerous scenarios in the South Caucasus state.

“Once again, what senior Ukrainian officials have often said, that they want, and perhaps still want, a second front in our country has been confirmed. The facts that we have seen, announced by the State Security Service, confirm this even more.”

The State Security Service of Georgia said on Monday that law enforcement agencies detained a shipment of explosives that was heading from Odessa to Voronezh through the territories of Romania, Bulgaria and Turkey.

According to the security services, the organizers' plan changed at some point and they decided to send one container containing three explosive devices to Russia, while the second container (which also contained three explosive devices) was left in Tbilisi to a specific address.

The shipment bound for Russia was stopped from the Georgian side at the time it was scheduled to cross the border.

Law enforcement officials explained that seven citizens of Georgia, three of Ukraine, and two of Armenia were involved in importing explosives into Georgian territory.

While the transfer of the dynamite devices was organized by Andriy Sharshidze, a citizen of Ukraine, who in 2020 was a candidate for the position of deputy of the Odessa Region Regional Council for the ruling Ukrainian political group Servant of the People.
