The demand for international air freight increased in August

September 29, 2021, 14:7GENEVA, September 29 (Prensa Latina) The International Air Transport Association (IATA) reported today that demand for air freight in global markets continued its upward trend in August in all regions, except for Latin America.

According to data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA) that month, global demand, measured in ton-kilometres, increased 7.7 percent compared to August 2019.

He noted that the growth rate slowed slightly compared to July, which recorded an increase in orders of 8.8 percent, compared to levels before the impact of Covid-19.

Meanwhile, the recovery of cargo capacity stalled in August, 12.2 percentage points lower than the same calendar 2019.

On a monthly basis, capacity fell 1.6 percent, the largest decline since January 2021, the entity reported.

Air freight demand had another strong month in August, up 7.7 percent compared to pre-Covid-19 levels. Willie Walsh, director general of the International Air Transport Association (IATA), said several economic indicators point to a strong year-end peak season.

He added that as international travel continues to decline, there are fewer passenger aircraft providing cargo capacity, and supply chain bottlenecks may worsen as companies continue to ramp up production.

Airlines in Asia Pacific saw international air cargo volume expand by 3.0 percent in August 2021 compared to the same month in 2019, North America by 18 percent, Europe by 6.0, the Middle East by 15.4 points, and Africa by 33.9 percentage points.

In contrast, Latin American airlines reported a 14 percent drop in the issue, the weakest performance in all regions.
