Removing the adapter from the iPhone 12 would have saved 2 million metric tons of carbon emissions per year, which is 10% of the company’s annual carbon footprint.

By 2021, the state itself had fined Apple $2 million for this measure. The government argued that the company could not demonstrate the environmental benefit, because it still manufactured the transformer and sold it separately anyway.
