Government appoints new Minister of Digital Health

The government announces changes in health management. Yesterday, after the Cabinet meeting, the Executive announced the appointment of Juan Fernando Muñoz as the new Minister of Digital Health.

Muñoz belongs to the Higher Authority for Information Systems and Technologies of the General Administration of the State, he holds a degree in computer science and a master’s in knowledge engineering from the Polytechnic University of Madrid.

The new Secretary of Digital Health has passed the Senior Management in Public Policy Program of the National Institute of Public Administration (Inap) and obtained several international certifications in information security and technology management in organizations such as Cisa and Cgeit from the North American Information Systems Audit and Control Association (Isaca), as well as passed the European Union civil servant examinations.

The government has also appointed a new Director General of Digital Health and Information Systems for the National Health System

currently, Muñoz works as Director General of Digital Health and Information Systems at the Ministry of Health It developed its activity for eighteen years, having passed through other organizations such as the Ministry of Defense, the Spanish Agency for the Protection of Personal Data and the Ministry of Public Administrations, among others.

Muñoz replaces Alfredo Gonzalez, who has been appointed Secretary of State for Regional Policy. Prior to this last stage, Gonzalez held other positions of responsibility in the ministry, such as the Under Secretary of Health.

This is not the only change within the WHO scheme. The government has also appointed Noemi Civikos as the new Director General of Digital Health and Information Systems for the National Health System (SNS). Civicus holds a degree in Physics from the University of Salamanca. Since September 2020, she has held the position of Deputy Director General of Digital Health Services in the Directorate General of Digital Health and Information Systems at SNS.
