Public Health confirms a decrease in Covid-19 cases

A systematic decrease in the reporting of new cases of Covid -19 has been recorded in recent weeks in most of the country’s provinces, with the exception of Dagapon and the National District, which are showing increases.

Yesterday, the authorities of the Ministry of Public Health revealed that the country had entered a phase of decline in cases of the virus, after the increase recorded within the fourth wave of the epidemic.

Meanwhile, after several weeks with daily reports of between 800 and 1,000 new cases of the virus, the system yesterday notified a significant act of recording 470 new cases in the past 24 hours.

The reduction also covers other indicators, including the seven-day infection rate, positivity and infection rate, according to doctors Ronald Squeeze and Eladio Perez, the national director of epidemiology and deputy minister of collective health, respectively.

“We’re probably in a downside phase with a clear downward trend,” Squeeze said.

They said that the country has three weeks with positivity decreasing, as well as seven days, unlike what is happening in other countries in the world. Officials noted that between weeks 44 and 45, there was a clear downward trend, and they gave Santiago, Santo Domingo and La Altagracia as examples, that cases had been declining for three weeks.

With regard to age, they indicated that epidemiological follow-up shows that the average age trend this year is clearly decreasing, and young people are the most affected. Yesterday, the country recorded one death and 470 new cases of the virus, which were discovered in a total of 10,033 laboratory samples processed during the past 24 hours.

The report shows a decrease in the daily positivity, as yesterday it reached 6.68% and accumulated in the past four weeks 8.29%.

With the registration of a new death, the number of deaths from Covid-19 in the country rises to 4,195, which puts the death rate at 1.04%.

The 615th epidemiological report, released yesterday, also recorded a decrease in the occupancy rates of Covid-19 hospital beds and clinics.

He notes that 459 patients were admitted to regular Covid-19 beds to fill 20% of the enabled beds in that area, while in intensive care units the total number of admissions was 193 to fill 33%. The number of patients connected to ventilation was 127 out of 27% of the equipment enabled for patients with disease.

As of yesterday, the total number of active virus cases seized by the system reached 3,956, out of the cumulative total of 404,754 registered cases, of which 396,603 were cured since the epidemic began. There are 44,541 infected people under the age of 20 who have been caught by the system so far, 1,471 pregnant women and 1,643 health workers.
